Dive In and Get Moving

In order for your back to remain flexible and strong, you need to exercise. Cardiovascular exercises such as swimming and walking are great for your back. In fact, research has shown that brisk walking improves the flexibility of your back and hips. It also improves flexibility while increasing the blood flow to your muscles and joints so they are better nourished and healthier overall. Exercises that stretch and strengthen the muscles of your abdomen and spine can help prevent back problems. Exercise is also a great way to control weight.... a big factor when it comes to back pain.

  • Be sure to check with your doctor before you engage in moderate physical activity.
  • Strive for thirty minutes of cardiovascular exercise daily.
  • Use a step counter when walking to keep you motivated. Aim for 10,000 steps a day.
  • Remember to warm-up before exercise.
  • Practice stretching and strengthening back exercises at least 3 times per week.
