- Use proper alignment: have your ears over your shoulders and shoulders over hips

Low Back Pain

- Acute back pain usually results from an accident or injury and lasts 1-7days
- Chronic back pain usually lasts more than 3 months
- The back is made up of vertebrae, discs, nerves, muscles and ligaments 80% of all Americans will experience some form of back pain in their lives
- Causes of back pain can include:prolonged sitting, over reaching or twisting
- Contributors to back pain include:obesity, poor posture, weak abdominal and/or back muscles
- Back pain may occur is association with detain diseases
- Doctors can diagnose back pain through obtaining a medical history, performing a complete physical exam and may order X-rays or other tests (such as a CT, EMG, MRI, bone scan or blood tests)
- Symptoms may include:difficulty bending at the waist difficulty lifting, walking or standing it may keep you awake at night
- Treatment depends on the cause of the back pain
Typical treatments include: rest, ice, medications, physical therapy
- Dos:
- Take medications as prescribed
- Call your doctor if you have side effects from medications
- Consider a weight loss program
- Do stretching and strengthening exercises daily
- Practice proper posture
- Don'ts:
- Don't wait to see if side effects go away on their own
Don't give up

- If you experience side effects from medications
- If pain continues
- If you need a referral to a therapist or counselor
- If you have new pain that goes down sides of legs
- If you have numbness or tingling
